Traffic Backed Up For Miles On I-95 Following Tractor-Trailer Crash

Traffic is still moving at a crawl on I-95 in Westport following a tractor-trailer rollover crash that injured one person.

The Westport Fire Department responded to a crash around 5 a.m., Thursday, March 28, for a reported tractor-trailer rollover northbound on I-95 between Exits 18 -19 in Westport, said the Westport Fire Department.

Responding firefighters reported a tractor-trailer on its side with one occupant trapped in the cab, the department said. 

The person was extricated by Westport and Fairfield fire departments and transported by Westport EMS to a local hospital. The extent of injuries was not known, police said.

State Police dispatch said at 8:50 a.m., that all lanes are open, but traffic is backed up for several miles. Delays are expected through the morning commute. 

Officials are also on the scene for clean-up efforts from a small fuel additive leak. 

Firefighters, state police, and the state departments of transportation and environmental protection remain on the scene.
